The Pioneer Memorial Bridge, known as the Blue Bridge, is a 2,520-foot steel cantilever truss spanning the Columbia River and connecting Pasco and Kennewick, Washington. Built between 1951 and 1954 to carry U.S. Route 395, it serves about 66,000 drivers daily and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its engineering and architectural significance.
In November 2025, crews completed a $33.5 million repainting and maintenance project to preserve the bridge and extend its lifespan. The work included removing deteriorated paint, cleaning and repainting all exposed steel, and completing minor repairs such as rivet and signage replacements—marking the first full repaint since 1994 and ensuring the Blue Bridge remains safe and reliable for years ahead.
